Careers with Oxford Science Studies

We are constantly on the lookout for good tutors in all subjects and welcome applications at any time of year.  We also regularly add new members to our Entertainment team. These staff are needed for residential courses, to supervise students in the evenings and help out during the day.

We are always on the lookout for new tutors and invite applications for all subjects.

OXSS courses generally run during the Half Terms and holidays, we also offer year-round online tuition through our sister company OICA.  Work with OXSS may be available Monday to Friday or over the weekend/on some bank holidays.  The hours are approximately 9am to 5pm, depending on the course. Year-round online tuition is offered 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday and limited hours over the weekend.

The position is flexible, you do not have to work on every course or be available for everyday of a given course.

Tuition provided will be for small group classes of between 1 and 6 students.

We cater for GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A Level.  On some courses we offer assistance with University entrance exams, such as UKCAT or BMAT.

The tutorials are student led and we cover all exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE, WJEC & Eduqas).

The majority of our students are aged 14 to 19 years.

Employment is subject to successful reference checks and the tutor must hold a valid enhanced DBS certificate – we can help with this.  You will also be required to take free Safeguarding Level 2 and Prevent training courses.

All tutors are self-employed and are paid at an hourly rate.

Guide to Tutoring

For our residential courses, generally running in the Easter and Summer holidays, we recruit fun and energetic team members to assist both during the daytime and in the evening.  For the daytime, the position involves tasks such as helping with the set up of the course, assisting with student arrivals/departures and supervising exam practice. For the evening, the position involves ensuring that evening entertainment is set up in a timely and organised manner, encouraging students to participate and supervising them throughout, to ensure that behaviour is appropriate and safe.

Depending on the task, Entertainment Team Members may work alone or in a group.  A briefing will be given by the Residential Manager, who will oversee the team and all activities.

Evening activities may include a scavenger hunt, cupcake decorating, magic and mocktails, board game nights, sports and a trip to the cinema or shopping in Oxford.

This is a casual role during the Easter and Summer Courses.  Hours available include during the day between 9am and 5pm, in the early evening between 5pm and 6.45pm and in the evening between 6.45pm and 10.15pm, as well as during the Sunday early evening and Monday morning arrivals.  You do not need to be available for all shifts.

Employment is subject to successful reference checks and the tutor must hold a valid enhanced DBS certificate – we can help with this.  You will also be required to take free Safeguarding Level 2 and Prevent training courses.

All Entertainment Team Members are self-employed and are paid at an hourly rate.

For our residential courses, generally those running in the Easter and Summer holidays, we recruit House Parents.  We do have a core team of House Parents, so positions are not always available.

This is a casual role, with hours mainly being 9.30pm to 9am.  House Parents will be able to sleep in their allocated room, waking to assist with students if required.

Accommodation and meals are  provided.

All House Parents are self-employed and are paid at a nightly rate.
